How to import a SCORM quiz into Moodle

The most widely deployed open-source LMS. Moodle supports SCORM 1.2 — SwiftSCORM's standard export format — so a knowledge-check quiz built from your training materials imports in a few clicks and reports scores straight to the gradebook.

Step by step

  1. Open the course where the training belongs and turn on 'Edit mode' (the toggle at the top-right; older Moodle 3.x labels this 'Turn editing on').
  2. Choose 'Add an activity or resource' in the target section.
  3. Pick 'SCORM package' from the activity chooser.
  4. Give the activity a name, then drag the SwiftSCORM .zip into the Package file area.
  5. Under Grade, set 'Grading method' to 'Highest grade' and 'Maximum grade' to 100 so the reported score maps 1:1.
  6. Save and display — Moodle launches the quiz and records score, pass/fail, and time in the gradebook.

Good to know

Moodle supports SCORM 1.2 natively. If you see 'Invalid package', confirm the .zip wasn't re-zipped inside another folder — imsmanifest.xml must sit at the zip root (SwiftSCORM exports it that way).

LMS interfaces evolve — if a label has moved in a recent Moodle release, the flow stays the same: add content → choose SCORM → upload the zip → enable score tracking.

Don't have your SCORM file yet? Turn a slide deck, document, or training recording into one in about a minute.
